FERDINAND MAKES LEEDS UNITED ADMISSION

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has made an admission on Leeds United after they escaped relegation from the Premier League on the final day of the season at the weekend. Rio Ferdinand talked about Leeds United staying in the Premier Leagueon his FIVE YouTube channel. Ahead of the final day of this season’s Premier League campaign, the former Manchester United defender tipped Leeds United to join Watford and Norwich City as the three relegated teams to the English Championship. In the end, Rio Ferdinand was proved wrong afterBurnley replaced Leeds United as the third and final team to suffer relegation from the top flight this season.


Ahead of the final day of the season, Burnley and Leeds United were on the same number of points (35) after 37 league games, but Leeds United were in the relegation zone due to an inferior goal difference. Leeds United needed to record a better result than Burnley to stay in the Premier League at the end of their respective final league games of the season and they did just that to the surprise of Rio Ferdinand and other Premier League football fans.

Leeds United had a tougher assignment on paper as regards the final league game of the season as they were at London club Brentford, while Burnley played hosts to new moneybags Newcastle United.

Burnley became the third and final team to drop down to the Championship after losing 2-1 at home to Newcastle United with Callum Wilson scoring twice for the visitors either side of the break, while Ivorian star Maxwel Cornet got the only goal for the Clarets. Leeds needed to better the result to stay in the division and they did by beating nine-man Brentford 2-1 at home with goals from Raphinha and Jack Harrison, while SergiCanos scored for the Bees before he was sent off for two yellow cards in the second half. Brentford had lost KristofferAjer to an injury earlier in the game.
