Rio Ferdinand confident on Angel di Maria

QPR defender Rio Ferdinand says that he still considers Manchester United’s record signing Angel di Maria to come back strongly from his recent poor run of form.

After making a great start to his life at Old Trafford, the Argentine has been looking very short of confidence. This has led to calls that he should be dropped from the team with immediate effect. Louis van Gaal, though, has not taken this brave decision, as di Maria continues to be part of the team. The 27-year-old has not scored a goal in his last 10 matches, while his statistics have suffered very badly since the start of 2015.

Van Gaal has been quick to defend di Maria by saying that it takes time for a foreign player to establish himself in the Premier League. However, fans have the right to expect more from the £ 60 million player given that it is more than six months since he came to the English league. Ferdinand, who himself has been struggling to get game time because of poor form, says that he expects di Maria to eventually come good and produce a run of consistent form that made him a force to reckon with at Real Madrid.

Di Maria was sent off in United’s recent FA Cup match against Arsenal.”I thought Di Maria was a great signing for United, and I still think he was a good signing because he is a top player. He was arguably Madrid’s best player last year — him and [Cristiano] Ronaldo were their standout players. I think he is a highly talented player. But it always takes time for a player to adapt to his new surroundings, especially when you go to a foreign league. Not every player can be like Ronaldo and just turn up and instantly become a superstar. Maybe it will take Di Maria a bit longer,” said Ferdinand.
